In her own words:
I am excited and honored to be a part of the Miss Santa Clarita Valley Program for a second year in a row. I joined the Miss SCV family in 2008 when I happily received the title of Miss Canyon Country. I fulfilled my duties that year, and had such a great time working within our community, I decided to run again to remain involved in the Santa Clarita Valley. I can't express into words the excitement and shock that filled me the moment I found out I was the new Miss Santa Clarita. With this shock and excitement, I was more than ready to accept the duties as Miss Santa Clarita.
I am currently a student at California State University of Northridge where I am majoring in Liberal Studies. One of my future goals is to become a teacher. I feel the Miss Santa Clarita Scholarship Program has helped me to pursue this goal. In order to become a teacher a person must be intelligent, compassionate, outgoing, dedicated, and confident. This program has given me more strength in all of those areas. I have been compassionate and dedicated to all the community work I have done this year, and have gained so much from every minute of it. I have met many dignitaries and community members of Santa Clarita that my confidence in public speaking has grown immensely.
This year has been loaded with a ton of great events and special opportunities in which the other queens and I have participated. From Chamber Mixers to the 4th of July Parade, we have had a blast at some of the biggest events of the Santa Clarita Valley.
One of my most memorable moments would be the LARC Ranch celebration. The queens and I were invited to join the members of LARC Ranch in their annual celebration. We ate cheeseburgers, and danced the day away with the amazing residents of LARC Ranch. In spending the day with these wonderful people of LARC Ranch, it made me realize how beautiful life is, because everyone is different. It also taught me to enjoy the little things to the fullest, like dancing, something so simple, can bring so much joy. Another one of my favorite events was the Carousel Ranch fundraiser. Miss Teen Santa Clarita, Amanda and I had the great opportunity to greet guests at this wonderful western themed fundraiser. We also had the chance to witness their horseback demonstration. Children who attend Carousel Ranch, attend for physical and emotional therapy purposes, by having the opportunity to ride horses. To see children with disabilities be able to get on a horse and see their face light up, takes your breath away. The demonstration was beautiful and brought tears to my eyes. With out the Miss Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Program, I would not have had these amazing opportunities to meet such truly influential people.
Along with the great memories and friends that I have made this year I have learned a great deal about myself, as well as our community. The Miss SCV program is designed to show young ladies how to express inner confidence and poise. In doing so the Miss SCV queens are the best ladies to represent our valley and act as role models in our community. I am extremely grateful to be working alongside these other fabulous ladies of Santa Clarita. I have cherished every moment of this opportunity.
I want to thank all of my fellow queens for the great moments we have shared throughout the year. I also want to thank Ms. Mardi for providing such a special program for young ladies, like myself. I want to say a huge thank you to Mul Tayoba, an elegant man who provided me with such beautiful gowns to truly make me feel like a queen. A special thanks also goes out to my family and friends who have supported me throughout this entire experience. And lastly I want to thank the City of Santa Clarita for providing such a great community to be apart of.
